My name is Jess
Kelliher. I am from Marshfield MA which is in the south shore. It is about 30
minutes from the cape and I live 5 minutes from the beach. I played basketball
and softball for my high school and I was voted a captain for both in my senior
year. I was recruited by Nichols to play basketball for them. I am hoping to be
one of the contributors off of the bench because I know I am not going to
start. I play either point guard or shooting guard. I do not have a major yet
but I am thinking about either criminal justice or sport management. My dream
job would be to either work for the FBI or to do some kind of management
for a sports team. I would also maybe like to own my own business preferably
some sort of a restaurant. My mom’s boyfriend owns his own restaurant so I am a
little hesitant to do that because he is always so work oriented. My mom always
complains about how he works too much and never has enough free time. Whenever
we are with him he is always taking phone calls or texting people about the
restaurant. It seems stressful however it is also very rewarding. He makes a
good amount of money so he does seem happy.
After
reading the article I decided that the people who inspire me the most are
Lesley Silverthorne and Bryan Duggan who created Angaza Design.
This company inspires me because it was not only created by such a young
individual but it also gives back to people who really need help. This company
develops solar products for people without electricity. They install solar
lighting in places of poverty throughout the world. This not only eliminates
the use of the toxic kerosene lamps but it also brings electricity to them at
less than half of the price. Silverthorne said, “We’re not giving aid.
We’re providing access to products that [individuals] can use to lift
themselves out of poverty.” This proves that she genuinely cares about the
people that she helps and she just wants to help people not only to survive but
also to be happy.
This article is very interesting Jess. It is very inspiring how these two individuals put their product to good use in helping the people of poverty stricken nations. The electricity that these people use can help to power their homes and not have to worry about bills. The two creators of this product are doing the people of these impoverished nations a great thing because it puts these people to work. When Silverthorne says that their product is helping to lift the people out of poverty they are right. These people, whom only live on 2 dollars a day are getting a far superior product than what they had before and will not be paying as much as they were for more inferior and dangerous product. For the people in these countries this product will definitely lift them out of poverty and into a better life. Great article Jess.
