kim schabowski

Hi. My name is Kimberly Schabowski. I am from Ludlow Massachusetts. I am majoring in Sport Management and thinking about minoring in psychology. I am debating between my dream job as a sport psychiatrist, coach, or an agent. I am already working every summer with a small company in the sports industry and it is a welcoming family atmosphere because it is close knit. I strongly suggest that if you have an opportunity then you should work with a small company first rather than a cut throat large monopoly.  However, I am thinking that I would want to work for a larger company when I graduate college and eventually run my own company maybe in the agency or psychology portion of sports.

After reading the articles from 30 under 30 the entrepreneurs that strike the most interest to me are Jared Hecht and Steve Martocci who together created GroupMe. GroupMe is an app for cell phones that allows you to converse with numerous people at the same time. It similar terms it is a chat room for cell phones. Even though Jared and Steve founded the app to keep in touch with friends it can be and is being used for so much more. Anyone in any industry can use the application. I thought that their idea was clever and simple. This invention can be used for work, friends, classes, families and even sports teams. It would be much easier for a coach to have all the players on a GroupMe chat instead of having to go through their phone or email and check off every individual name to send a mass text or email. If you’re a busy president of a business in a major company would you have time to sit on your phone and search for 30 employees names to tell them about a meeting? I didn’t think so. Recently GroupME has been bought by Skype so not only has their creation helped communicating easier for groups of people and for numerous reason, but it has also provided them with a decent chunk of change in their pockets.  I give kudos to them for their idea.

This is an ad from GroupMe.

This is their logo. It's pretty creative with making it look kind of like a smiley face because who wants to download an app that's sad?

This video is the interview after they sold GroupMe to Skype for $85 million. (about 6 minutes long)
