Hi Tim! What a great presentation! After going through it, I was able to key in on a couple interesting things. Since I just had knee surgery over the summer, I've had to deal with numerous braces and thought this was an interesting presentation as soon as I read the title. I found it very interesting that your cousin Frank Shirley has helped many Haitians after the earthquake. I can't even imagine the sights that your cousin must have seen. Since your cousin has helped injured patients around the world, that definitely supports the statement, “a growing number of consumers and workers have begun to insist that companies play a proactive role in making their communities – and often the world community – better places.” (Kelly/McGowen & Kelly/McGowen, 2012). I think it was a fantastic idea to work right inside the hospital, offering patients quick access to braces and limbs right after the get out of their doctor's or physical therapist's office. I found it quite impressive that he was able to fund his business with only personal assets, and he didn't have to take out a bank loan. I also thought that Frank was very smart in turning his business in to an S corporation, in order to protect his personal assets. You just never know in today's world, when a business can go belly-up.
Hey Tim. I found your presentation interesting to read. Thats awesome that your cousin went back to school and got an MBA through Springfield College. He seems to be very successfull after starting the business 26 years ago. I give him credit and respect that he helps others in need and gives his patients artificial limbs so they can do regular activities that non amputees can do.
Hey Tim! I found your small business owner presentation very interesting. Like Reece's comment above, I also had knee problems during the summer and had to deal with a lot of doctor's appointments to get braces which is why I chose to view your presentation. There were a couple of interesting points I picked up on while viewing your PowerPoint. I saw that Frank's business is an S Cooperation, just like my Dad's business, Southwick Insurance. I also found it very interesting and heartwarming that your cousin worked with the Haitians injured by the earthquake. He's giving those young kids and adults the chance to walk again and I applaud him for the work he does. I also thought Frank was extremely smart for choosing to run his business in a hospital instead of getting his own building. That offers quick access to patients who are in need of limbs and braces. I also saw that Frank went back to school at Springfield College to get his MBA which supports, "The opportunities for entrepreneurial leaning have exploded in the past decade. Many colleges and universities now offer full-blown entrepreneurship programs that help students both develop their plans and secure their initial funding (Kelly/ McGowen 2012)." I wish your cousin the best of luck in the near future.
