Small Business

  1. Hey Dan! I really enjoyed reading about your family’s plumbing & heating business. I find that in businesses that are aimed at improving living standards and necessities rely a lot on the word of mouth and having good customer service. Also, I think it’s good that you have two different points of view when asking these questions (Dan & Maria). Having good business ethic is important. Business ethic is “the application of right and wrong, good and bad in a business setting” (Kelly/McGowen 2012). Like we have discussed in class, getting your name out there is good, and advertising can be a very important aspect of running a business. I also find it really cool that your mom graduated from Nichols College, and how it helped her to succeed when running a business. Your parents advice for our class is accurate, some students don’t realize how much work really goes into the behind the scenes of running a business. Key factors are having a plan and working long hours to achieve your goal. Running a business through your home could be difficult because you don’t really get away from it, though I totally understand because my dad’s business is similar in that way. Great presentation!
