Hey Amanda, it sounds like your dad has a very successful business. It is impressive that he has been in business for 32 years. I can see how it could be hard to keep a carpentry company in business, especially when financial times are hard. Many people can not afford to re-decorate their homes during hard times. You also mentioned that customer satisfaction is very important, which it is in every business, but for your fathers business it must be crucial. They must get a lot of different requests and different things that people want done to their house. When it comes to houses it can be hard because everyone likes their house to look a different way. I thought your own questions to him were interesting, especially when you asked his opinion on diversifying and owning two businesses, and if he would do anything differently. His answers would be helpful for people thinking about trying to start a carpentry business, especially when he said that one thing he would change would be having such a general business instead of a specified field. If a business does not specify what they specialize in, then they will end up getting request for things that they may not know how to do, or end up over their head in work. Overall I though you had a very good PowerPoint.
Hey Amanda, Very good PowerPoint. My Dad owns a plumbing and heating company and has also told me that the rough economy is a big challenge today especially since the housing market was hit the worst and new homes are not being built as much as they were before. I’m glad to see that he is making through good and being in business 32 years must be a huge plus. I like how he put an emphasis on word of mouth being the best advertising because I don't know about you but I come from a small town and for my Dad's business, it was his only form of advertising when he started and it really got him going and it comes down to quality service for a fair price and good customer satisfaction that leads people to be repeat customers and also leads them to spread the word. His point of making sure he hires honest and knowledgeable people is also a very good point. I know my Dad has had his share of employees who just were not knowledgeable in what they were doing. And especially in the construction industry you have to be knowledgeable because I'm sure if you make one mistake it can throw off the entire project. Finally I like his advice about having to be willing to work long and hard hours. It seems to be a reoccurring theme but it’s so true and it can make or break a business. Again very goof PowerPoint and I hope your Dad keeps doing well and we all make it through this tough economy in one piece!
Hey Amanda, I loved looking at your power point about your father’s business. I can’t believe that he has been in business for 32 years, which takes a lot of commitment but your father obviously loves what he does. Any job that you do work for someone it always feels great when you finish the job and the clients are very happy because all your hard work paid off. I can see how it could be hard to keep a company when the economy is horrible because many people cannot afford to get their homes fixed up. I love how you said that the most important marketing strategy is word of mouth because that is very true especially if a company is not known like a high end company so people talking to other people always makes the company well known and if they are satisfied with the work many people would want what they got done too. I hope your father’s business does stay in business in the future because he has put some much time and effort into it. It was very interesting that your dad would specialize in a specific field instead of general remodeling. Overall this power point was very interesting and hopefully your dad can keep increasing with his business!
